Dear CHS Family...

We are living in a truly unprecedented time - the educational routines that we have all enjoyed has been replaced with uncertainty and doubt. In spite of this change, we are unwavering in our commitment to education. It is our most firm belief that the health, safety, and education of your student are our highest priorities. In accordance with executive order 2020-35, which was signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer on Thursday, April 2, we at Comstock High School will be complying in the following manner:

  • The school building will remain closed for the remainder of the school year. If your student needs to clean out his or her locker, we will soon announce a specific date and time to complete this task.
  • We will offer remote learning options to all Comstock High School students. These options will be flexible and designed to specifically meet the needs of you and your family.
  • We will do everything within our power to mitigate the impact of this shutdown on your student.
    ○ A plan will be developed for each 9th, 10th, or 11th grade student. This plan will be designed to accumulate the high school credits that could have been earned this year.
  • Senior specific topics:
    • If your senior was on pace to graduate prior to the shutdown, then he or she will graduate from Comstock High School.
    • If your senior was not on pace to graduate prior to the shutdown, then we will develop a personalized plan for him or her to ensure the opportunity to graduate.
    • A formal determination as to where your senior stands will be made within the coming weeks. School representatives will contact each family within the coming weeks to fully discuss the determination.
    • Graduation, which was previously scheduled for May 29, 2020, will be postponed. As this date falls during the state mandated closure, we will not be able to host graduation as previously planned. We will work as a school to develop a new plan and will communicate it to all interested parties when it is completed.
  • Standardized testing will be cancelled for the year. Current juniors who were scheduled to take the SAT this year, will be provided the opportunity to take the SAT early next year as a senior.

We appreciate your understanding as we navigate these new and uncharted waters. Our plan will be discussed more fully in the coming weeks. In the meantime, please take care of yourself and your family as that is most important right now. We will get through this together as Colts!

Dual enrollment for 2020-21

Students at Comstock High School have the opportunity to earn college credit through taking KVCC courses at the high school. Please see the list below for courses offered in the 2020-2021 school year:

ENGL 110 - College Writing I
SOC 103 - Contemporary Social Problems
BUS 101 - Business Principles / Practices
MUS 102 - History of Rock 'n' Roll

Click here to download detailed course descriptions for each of these courses.

All FIRST TIME dual enrollees must take the Accuplacer NG test. At this time, this step must be completed virtually. This process has been a bit different this year by way of the COVID19 impacts, and it is suggested that you take these steps ASAP. If you have taken ENG 110 before, you will not have to test for these classes.

Before testing you must apply to KVCC. You can do so here. You can reach out to the KVCC testing center to get an Accuplacer appointment. Their email is testcenter@kvcc.edu. You email them with the following information:

Student full name (first, middle, last)

Student Valley Number
Student birth date
Test you need to take (Writing, Reading and Math)

After testing, you can email Mr. Cotter to indicate which courses you'd like to enroll in, as well as any off-campus courses you're interested in. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mr Cotter directly at cotterj@comstockps.org.
