5-14 - Comstock 0 - Centreville 15
5-14 - Comstock 0 - Centreville 15
The lady Colts finished the year vs a talented Centerville squad. The girls showed a significant improvement in the outfield as they threw accurate balls to the cutoff while communicating with each other. The infield covered a bunt perfectly as everyone went to their spots and executed the play perfectly!
However we just couldn’t muster up any runs against the Bulldogs stellar pitching
5-10 - Comstock 10 - Marcellus 18
5-10 - Comstock 4 - Marcellus 19
The Lady Colts hosted Marcellus on Saturday. The weather was absolutely perfect and the girls' bats heated up along with the temperature. In the first game we exploded with 10 runs in the first two innings. Payton Camburn continues to improve and had 2 hits. Speedster Abigail Evink scored 2 runs after stealing several bases. Claire Smith also had 2 hits which led to 2 RBI's. The second game we faced a difficult pitcher who slowed our bats down. Maleah Kelley had several good at bats battling off tough pitches while making solid contact. The outfield and infield are improving while working together, hitting the cut off and stopping the runners from getting an extra base. Both teams got along great and everyone came together after the game for a group hug, great sportsmanship Colts!
5-7 - Comstock 1 - Decatur 20
5-7 - Comstock 11 - Decatur 15
The Colts faced a very strong pitcher in the first game and had some difficulties getting out of innings in the field. However the second game was a different story. The girls exploded with 7 runs in the second inning Jasmine Bodley started the inning with a walk followed by a Payton Camburn single. Abbie Peters continues to impress behind the plate with her hustle and willingness to do anything for the team. Brianna Darnell is performing some good at bats and learning the intricacies of playing left field. Even though there is significant progress being made, we were unable to finish the second game with a victory.
5-5 - Comstock 1 - Galesburg-Augusta 19
5-5 - Comstock 10 - Galesburg-Augusta 17
We started a long week (6 games) hosting our cross town rivals from Galesburg. The girls could not get much going the first game, but the second game was very competitive as our hitting and base running improve. The team is much more confident at the plate and taking extra bases when the opportunity arises. Abbie Peters and Mackenze Militzer got on base all three times with Abbie scoring each time. Maleah Kelleys defense continues to improve at third base and was a team player while stepping in for the team playing a few innings in left field. Alli Harper is doing a great job backing up plays when needed and always offering encouragement to her teammates. Once again the Colts played hard but could not hold off the Rams bats.
5-3 - Comstock 7 - Mendon 22
5-3 - Comstock 16 - Mendon 17
The middle school Colt softball team continues to show signs of improvement. On Saturday we traveled to Mendon and played the undefeated Hornets. We started the first game with a 3-0 lead, but struggled to get them out and could not contain a talented offense.
The second game was highly contested and maybe our best game of the season. Abigail Evink stole three bases. Mackenzie Militzer had a big double and the rest of the team made contact while battling to the very end. However a late error led to a walk off win. Overall things are looking up as the girls are learning what it takes to win.
4-30 - Comstock 17 - Lawrence 2
4-30 - Comstock 20 - Lawrence 7
The Colts finally put together two solid performances vs the Tigers of Lawrence. The bats were on fire for both games as we scored 17 runs in the first game and 20 in the second! Maleah Kelley received the game ball as she had 3 hits, 4 runs and made a great play to end game 1!. Abigail Evink and Bri Darnell both had doubles along with several RBI's. It was a complete team effort and the girls are starting to see the benefits of hard work, focus and communication.
4-26 - Comstock 9 - Bloomingdale 20
4-26 - Comstock 3 - Bloomingdale 24
The Lady Colts hosted Bloomingdale for a double header. The Colts had by far their best hitting day and Christina Whitby hit her first inside the park home run! Maleah Kelley also had 2 hard hits. Unfortunately some poor base running decisions shut down the rallies in the first game and the Colts could not keep up. The second game did not go as well as the injury bug struck and once again players had to learn a position on the fly. Mackenzie Militzer threw strikes and never gave up while the team kept fighting. The depleted Colts just ran out of steam.
4-23 - Comstock 6 - White Pigeon 19
4-23 - Comstock 1 - White Pigeon 20
The Lady Colts traveled to White Pigeon for a doubleheader. Unfortunately the flu bug hit our team early in the week which shortened the roster. The good news is some of our rookies were able to learn a new position while demonstrating good team values. Payton Camburn made her middle school pitching debut with 2 strike outs and Jasmine Bodley continued to impress with 3 total hits. Overall the first game was competitive as the team fought hard while encouraging one another. Fatigue set in during the second game as the Colts just could not get the bats going.
4-19 - Comstock 6 - Cassopolis 14
4-19 - Comstock 4 - Cassopolis 19
The improved middle school softball team had 2 tough road games in Cassopolis. The first game the lady Colts showed lots of toughness and grit as they battled to a 6-6 tie after two innings. The highlight of the year was a pop up caught by the second baseman, Payton Camburn, who threw to Mackenzie Militzer at second who then fired to Abigail Evink at first for an inning ending triple play!! However the momentum shifted and we were unable to close them out
The Colts got off to a slow start in game two, but did manage to scrape a few runs in the last inning. Just not enough as they fell to a hot hitting opponent. Allison Harper got the game ball as she is quickly becoming a selfless team player willing to do anything asked of her.
4-16 - Comstock 11 - Bangor 16
The lady Colts got out to a early 11-9 lead, but couldn’t hold on against a feisty Bangor team. Jasmine Bodley received the game ball with 2 hits while playing a solid center field.
4-12 - Comstock 0 - Centreville 19
4-12 - Comstock 1 - Centreville 16
The Lady Colts started their season vs a talented Centerville team. They played hard and stayed positive through both games of the double header. Abbie Peters received the game ball as she had 2 hits and played a solid game behind home plate. MacKenzie Militzer displayed good control as she threw strikes and limited her walks. Christina Whitby pitched her first middle school game and by the third inning was starting to get in her groove as she limited the Bulldogs to only one runner in the third inning.
