Larry Richards

Terrence JacksonLarry Richards

Class of 1970

Versatility in high school athletics is the hallmark of Larry Richards. He participated in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field at Comstock High School. Larry was a starter in each sport which he participated in and is the epitome of a team player. On the football field, basketball court, baseball diamond and on the track, he demonstrated leadership in a professional manner and was well liked by his teammates and coaches.

To this day, Larry has held the school record for 55 years in the pole vault clearing 14’ 2” in 1970. He was a starter on two Wolverine Conference basketball and baseball championships in 1969 and 1970, and a district championship in basketball in 1970. After high school, Larry participated in recreational slow pitch softball in the Comstock and Kalamazoo leagues and played in tournaments on weekends. He excelled as a 1st baseman and was a clutch hitter that his teammates could rely on. He was known as “Stretch”.

Larry was awarded the B’nai B’rith Scholar-Athlete Award for outstanding athletic, academic achievement and citizenship for 1970. The award was presented to one Senior athlete per high school in Kalamazoo County.

Congratulations on achieving the induction to the Comstock High School Hall of Fame.
