What is "STEM?"

The United States has developed as a global leader, in large part, through the genius and hard work of its scientists, engineers, and innovators. In a world that’s becoming increasingly complex, where success is driven not only by what you know, but by what you can do with what you know, it’s more important than ever for our youth to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to solve tough problems, gather and evaluate evidence, and make sense of information. These are the types of skills that students learn by studying science, technology, engineering, and math—subjects collectively known as STEM.

That's our focus at Comstock STEM Academy, and we're proud of the accomplishments we are making.

  • Comstock STEM Academy had the highest level proficiency scores of any school building in Kalamazoo county.

  • We have a state of the art high school-grade science lab.

  • The STEM Academy competed in all events in the Science Olympiad last year, and placed 4th in the regional competition (It was our first year competing!).

  • The STEM Academy is the home of a competitive robotics club.

  • The STEM Academy offers 8th grade students the opportunity to earn high school credit, and thus accelerating their ability enroll in dual enrollment (free college credit courses).
