Celebration Plans for the Class of 2020

This is the Comstock High School plan for our Class of 2020 Commencement. If you have any questions, we would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you and discuss them. As always, thank you for everything that you do. We hope to see you soon.

Week of May 18:
Social Media Celebrations

Starting on Wednesday, May 20th the Comstock High School social media pages will be dedicated to honoring our seniors. Each day a selection of seniors will be honored on all of the Comstock High School social media platforms. We would encourage you to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to join in each celebration with us.

Friday, May 29 from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM:
Class of 2020 Distribution Day

Each Member of the Class of 2020, along with two guests, is invited to celebrate with us at Comstock High School. Upon arrival, each student will have the opportunity to return all school materials and receive graduation materials. The student (and up to 2 people) will then walk through a series of stops meant to celebrate their achievements.

At the event, you will:

  • Return textbooks
  •  Return Chromebooks and chargers
  •  Return uniforms
  •  Receive your cap and gown
  •  Receive your cords, medals, certificates, and diploma
  •  Receive athletic awards

After putting on the cap and gown, the student and family will have the opportunity to have pictures taken by a professional photographer. They will then be escorted into the Comstock Auditorium where a video recording will be made of the student receiving their diploma. After receiving their diploma each student will be free to leave with all graduation materials in hand.

In order to pull this off in the safest manner possible, here are a few important notes about this event:

  • Sign up for time slots here
  • Each time slot represents an arrival time. Given the number of families that we will be escorting through the process, it is important to arrive as close to your arrival time as is possible.
  • Due to the state's restrictions on the size of gatherings, we will be forced to limit the number of people in the building to the graduate and two guests. We would encourage all guests to greet the graduate at the auditorium doors to celebrate with them upon completion of the process.
  • The process will begin in our gymnasium/athletic entrance.
    • Upon entering, you will find a table to return all academic materials (Chromebooks, textbooks, etc.) as well as a table to return all athletic materials (uniforms, etcl).
    • After returning materials, you will be provided your cap and gown as well as private space to put them on.
    • You will then enter the Colt Center to retrieve your awards, cords, tassel, and other items.
    • You will also be provided the opportunity to have pictures taken by a photographer.
    • You will then proceed to the Comstock Auditorium. While in the auditorium, you will be able to walk on stage and be recorded receiving your official diploma.
  • The entire process will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
  • After leaving the auditorium, our grounds will remain open to you for as long as you would like. We would encourage you and your family to take pictures on our campus.
  • Once all pictures and videos are processed, we will make them available to you.

This entire process, however, begins by visiting this page to schedule your arrival time. The time slots will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. We look forward to seeing all of you next week.

Friday, May 29 at 7:00 PM:
Class of 2020 Celebratory Video

A special video message has been recorded and will premiere on the CHS YouTube page as well as our social media pages.

Saturday, July 25 at 11:00 AM:
Tentative Commencement Date

This plan is dependent upon physical restrictions set by the State of Michigan. If we are fortunate enough to be able to hold a traditional commencement, it will be held on July 25 at 11:00 AM at the Comstock Athletic Field. If this is able to occur, it is highly likely that the number of guests in physical attendance will be limited. For those unable to attend, we will livestream the event.

Week of July 27:
Back-up, Virtual Commencement

In the event that the State of Michigan restrictions limit the ability to hold a traditional
commencement, we will celebrate the Class of 2020 through the use of a virtual graduation commencement ceremony.
