3-5 - Comstock 36 - Kalamazoo Christian 63
The jv boys basketball team played their final game of the season losing to Kalamazoo Christian 63-36. After a slow first half they played much better the second half only being outscored by 5 points. They battled the whole game and never gave up. They ended their season with a very respectable 11-9 record. Logan Tiller had 10 points, Tyler Mays had 11 rebounds and Mason House once again had a good game off the bench scoring 6 points and playing excellent defense. The varsity team next year will be getting some good additions off of this years jv team.
2-25 - Comstock 73 - Delton-Kellogg 54
The jv boys basketball team went to a 2 platoon system last night and exploded for a 73-54 win over Delton. The young Colts hit the floor running and played tenacious defense to go up 31-11 after the first quarter. Tyler Mays lead the charge for the blue platoon scoring 31 points, 18 in the first quarter. Mason House and Toby Bishop lead the charge for the white platoon with 11 points apiece. The team hit a season high 8 threes. The two platoons simply wore the Panthers down after narrowly defeating them in their first meeting by 5 points. Their record now stands at 11-8. This is the most wins for a Comstock JV team in a number of years. The team shot 56% from 2 point range and 50% from 3 point range. They converted 65% of their free throws. They had 34 rebounds with Tim Thomas high with 7 boards and Logan Tiller, Mason House and James Pack all with 6 rebounds. They only committed 8 turnovers and had 11 steals. The final game of the season is next Thursday against Kalamazoo Christian.
2-23 - Comstock 62 - Constantine 54 OT
The cardiac kids aka the jv boys basketball team won another close basketball game. This time they beat Constantine 62-54 in overtime. The win was the 10th of the year for the young Colts. There were heroes galore for the young Colts in a total team victory. Three players were in double figures with Tyler Mays, Michael Troupe and Shaune Carter scoring 20, 16 and 12 points respectively. The team had 29 rebounds and were lead by Dylan LaBrie with 11 and Logan Tiller and Tyler mays each with 5. The team had 15 steals and only ten turnovers. Dylan LaBrie had 5 steals. Shaune Carter ran the offense flawlessly with no turnovers. Once again the bench was the difference scoring 15 points. Defense proved to be the difference with the team being down 4 points with a minute 38 seconds to go and coming up with 2 steals for layups to tie the score in regulation. Shaune Carter was 6 for 6 from the freethrow line in the 4th quarter and overtime to ice the victory. Mason House, Tim Thomas and Logan Tiller came up with key defensive stops and rebounds to allow the team to come back for the win. Von Bishop, Sage Stephenson and James Pack also played well. The next game is at Delton Wednesday night.
2-17 - Comstock 21 - Brandywine 39
The boys jv basketball team lost to Niles Brandywine by a score of 21-39. Their record is now 10-9 with 3 games left in the season. They play two games on the road next week at Constantine and Delton.
2-12 - Comstock 42 - Schoolcraft 65
The young Colts lost a very physical game to Schoolcraft 65-42. The team showed great improvement from their first meeting by 20 points. The team battled for the full 32 minutes and should be proud of their effort. Parker Munson played an excellent game and was injured in the 4th quarter on a drive to the basket, on a fast break. He was taken to the hospital to have his knee checked out. We are all hoping it is not a serious injury. Shaune Carter played his best game of the year scoring 12 points and running the offense, often against a press. Shaune also had 2 steals and 2 rebounds. Michael Troupe had an excellent game with 10 points, I block, 1 steal and 2 rebounds. Michael again played lock down defense against bigger opponents. Logan Tiller chipped in with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. The team is looking forward to their next game on Tuesday, at home. The team is looking to secure their 10th win of the season. Ten or more wins, in a season, by a Comstock JV team, is something that has not been accomplished in a while and we ask the students to come out and cheer all three teams to victory.
2-10 - Comstock 52 - Allegan 33
The JV boys basket ball team defeated Allegan 52-33 for their ninth win of the season. Their overall record now stands at 9-6. The young Colts had an amazing 45 rebounds to go with 11 steals and only 10 turnovers. Another amazing stat was the team shooting 37 free throws and converting 25. They followed their game to perfection as evidenced by these statistics. Tyler Mays, Dylan LaBrie and Logan Tiller were a triple pronged attack combining for 45 points and 29 rebounds. Parker Munson and Tim Thomas led a defensive spark off the bench to open up the game. Seven players scored for the Colts with the bench contributing 5 points. Mason House and Davon Bishop played a good floor game along with each hitting a bucket. Sage Stephenson again played lock down defense and James Pack continues to improve. Shaune Carter and Michael Troupe played within the team concept and were valuable to the team that don't always show up in the stats.
2-5 - Comstock 39 - Galesburg 48
The JV boy's basketball team was defeated tonight by The G-A Rams 48-39. A poor third quarter when the young Colts were outscored by 10 and and being outscored by 8 from the free throw line was the difference in the game. The team played hard and never gave up. They came back from a 10 point deficit to take the lead in the second quarter. Their overall record is now 8-6, 6-4 in the league. The team is pushing hard to have a winning JV record, something that has not been achieved by Comstock in quite sometime. Their next game is Tuesday, on the road. The team is eager to bounce back with a win.
2-3 - Comstock 39 - Hackett 34
The Jv boys basketball team again came from behind and secured a hard fought contest, with Hackett 39-34. This is the 6th win of the season where the young Colts have won a contest by two possessions or less. Their record now stands at 8-5 overall and 6-3 in the league. Once again defense, rebounding ad playing together were the key to victory. This is the 3rd game of the season where they have held a team below 35 points and the 5th time below 40points. The Colts tied the game at 28 all at the end of the third quarter on a great out of bounds play. Mason House made a perfect pass to Tyler Mays who drained a 3 with 2 seconds remaining in the quarter. Mason also knocked down a baseline jumper earlier in the quarter at a crucial time. Tyler Mays with 11 points and Parker Munson with 10points lead us in scoring. Tyler had a great hustle play to prevent a break away layup. Michael Troupe defended their top scorer from our last game and limited him to only 6 points, 17 points below what he scored last time against us. Tim Thomas again gave us a lot of energy, causing 2 turnovers and a steal by his hustle to go with 3 rebounds. We held the Irish to only 6points in the 4th quarter. Our bench again came through for us scoring 13 points. Dylan LaBrie and Logan Tiller ruled the boards and made several nice back door cuts for lay ups.
1-29 - Comstock 46 - Parchment 32
The boys JV basketball played their best statistical game of the season, beating Parchment 46-32. The young Colts won their first meeting with the Panther by 2points. The game was close throughout the game until the Colts broke open the game in the last four minutes. Their record now stands at 7-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The team shot 67% from the floor, had 34 rebounds, a whopping 21 steals and only 8 turnovers. Once again the bench was the key to victory contributing 15 points along with playing team basketball. Seven players scored. Dylan LaBrie was a monster on the boards with 10. He also had 5 steals. Mason House, Shaune Carter and Tyler Mays hit key outside shots. Logan Tiller, Tim Thomas, Tyler Mays and Michael Troupe did an excellent job of driving to the basket. Michael also played lock down defense. Parker Munson ran the offense very well especially in key situations. Our next game is Tuesday, at home against Hackett.
1-27 - Comstock 27 - Kalamazoo Christian 58
The young Colts lost their 5th game of the season last night, against 6 wins to Kalamazoo Christian. 58-27. Poor shooting doomed the team last night. The ball just didn't fall on good looks at the hoop. Although 8 players scored no one was in double figures. The team played well in the 1st and 4th quarters last night being outscored by only 2 and 5 points respectively. Sage Stephenson, Davon Bishop, Dominique Tidmore and James Pack did a nice job bringing energy off the bench and gaining valuable experience last night.
1-22 - Comstock 44 - Delton-Kellogg 39
At the half way point o the season the jv boys basketball team stands at 6-4. They are 4-2 in the KVA conference good for 3rd place. The team won their fourth game by two possessions or less against a very tough and physical Delton team. The score was close through out the game. Once again strong bench play was the key to victory. Mason House was very solid with 5 point, 6 rebounds and 1 steal . Tyler Mays played his first game of the season. Coming off the bench, he contributed 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Shaune Carter did an excellent job running the offense. Logan Tiller, Michael Troupe and Dylan Labrie were major forces on the boards helping the team to 32 rebounds, for the game. Logan with 11 and Michael with 7 points kept our scoring balanced. Once again Tim Thomas played multiple positions, both offensively and defensively, during the game and was a major factor in the game. We are excited about our improvement during the first part of the season and look forward to the second half of the season.
1-20 - Comstock 56 - Constantine 41
The boys jv basketball team improved their record to 5-4 with a convincing win over Constantine 56-41. It was the highest offensive out put of the year for the young colts. It was a very balanced attack last night with Dylan Labrie's 15points, Michael Troup's 12 points. Shaune Carter's 11points, Tim Thomas's 8 points and Logan Tiller's 6points. Davon Bishop and Dakota Black scored 3 and 1 point respectively. Logan Tiller was the leading rebounder with 7 boards. Michael Troupe was the leader in steals with 4. Once again strong bench performances by Mason House, Dakota Black, Sage Stephenson and Davon Bishop sparked the defense. Dominique Tidmore and James Pack provide good defense in the paint and rebounding. The team shot very well last night shooting 61% from 2point range and 54% from 3 point range. Six 3 pointers was a team high for the season.
1-16 - Comstock 35 - Schoolcraft 78
Last night the young Colts ran into a buzz saw losing to Schoolcraft 78-35. Logan Tiller had an outstanding game scoring 20 points and leading us in rebounding and steals. He hustled all over the court. Even though we lost the team played hard throughout the game and played together. They never gave up. Sage Stephenson, Dakota Black, Davon Bishop and James Pack played extended minutes last night and did a nice job pressing and creating turnovers.
1-13 - Comstock 46 - Coloma 31
The boys JV basketball team earned a decisive win over their counter parts of Coloma. The final score is deceiving as the young Colts only lead 20-18 after 3 quarters. They then exploded for 26 points in the final period. Their ability to make adjustments offensively and defensively was the key to victory. It is the team's best defensive effort of the year. Once again sticking to the game plan resulted in the team shooting 30 free throws for the game and connecting on 50% of their shots from the floor, 67% in the second half. Dylan LaBrie with 19points and Parker Munson with 13 points were the scoring leaders. Parker also had 7 steals. Logan Tiller was the leading rebounder with 5 and also chipped in with 7 points. Michael Troupe played an excellent all around second half. He hit a key jumper to begin the 4th quarter and defended Coloma's leading scorer, holding him to 4 points in the second half. Dakota Black was once again a defensive stopper and made some key passes against the press resulting in layups. The team now has a 4-3 record having used a different starting lineup in all seven games. In four of those games a different lineup started the second half. The key to this year's team is playing together, playing good defense, rebounding and executing on offense.
1-6 - Comstock 42 - Pennfield 45
The JV boys basketball team played their best game of the season against their best opponent to date, the Pennfield Panthers. The game went right down to the wire with the contest being decided on the last possession at the buzzer. Unfortunately for the young Colts, they were on the short end of the score 42-45. Parker Munson scored 13pts. and Dylan LaBrie scored 12pts. LaBrie, Mason House and Logan Tiller were strong on the boards and Tim Thomas anchored the defense while scoring 5pts., to go with 4 rebounds. Shaune Carter also had 5pts. Our overall record is now 3-3. Coach Low is very pleased with the progress of the team so far and how well they are playing together.
12-30 - Comstock 41 - Gobles 58
The young Colts lost a disappointing game to Gobles in the championship game of the White Pigeon tournament, in the JV bracket. The team falls to 3-2 on the season after the 58-41 lose. The team jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead but could not sustain it as the team began getting in foul trouble. The difference in the game was being outscored by 8pts. from the free throw line and by 9pts' from 3pt. range. Gobles was 21 of 48 from the free throw line. To the team's credit they battled through out the game and never gave up. The young Colts garnered 40 rebounds for the game and again had double digit steals with 12. Once again 8 of the 11 players who saw action scored. Logan Tiller lead us in scoring with 11pts to go with his 10rebounds and 2 steals and no turnovers. Dylan LaBrie also had 10 rebounds to go with his 8pts. as he battled against a much larger opponent through out the game. Again our bench was a strength for us contributing 11pts.,10 rebs. and 3 steals. Among this group was Shaune Carter, Dakota Black, Sage Stephenson, Dominique Tidmore, Tim Thomas and James Pack. Congratulations to Gobles they played well, were well coached and deserved to win.
12-29 - Comstock 54 - Brandywine 48
The young Colts improved to 3-1 on the season with a thrilling come from behind win against Niles Brandywine. The final score was 54-48. At one time in the game we were down 19-4 but came back with great defense and sticking to the game plan. It was a total team effort with all 11 players seeing action and 8 scoring. The bench contributed a whopping 18pts. Our bench is becoming a real strength for our team. Comstock did not seize the lead until 2:15 remained in the game. The team ran their 4 corner offense to perfection once they had the lead. The Colts shot 13 of 17 free throws in the 4th quarter and 20-26 for the game. The shooting from the floor was also good going 17 for 37 for the game and shooting 69% in the second half. Dylan LaBrie lead us in rebounding with 7 and Logan Tiller and Tim Thomas each having 5. We had 13 steals in the game with 6 players contributing. Parker Munson lead us with 4 steals and had an excellent game coming off the bench with 12 pts. Dylan LaBrie lead all scorers with 23 pts. and going 9-11 from the free throw line. Comstock will play in the championship game tomorrow against Gobles.
12-19 - Comstock 36 - Galesburg-Augusta 49
The boys JV basketball team lost it's first game of the season to the G-A Rams. It was a hard fought contest through out the entire game. The young Colts trailed 36-30 going into the final period but could not overcome the deficit. They had to foul towards the end of the game to try and get the ball back. To G-A's credit they made their free throws to seal the game. The final score was 49-36. Seven players scored for Comstock in a balanced attack with Logan Tiller and Dylan LaBrie each scoring 8pts. The young Colts hit 4 3's in the game with Shaune Carter making 2. Parker Munson had 5 steals and Dylan LaBrie had 7 rebounds .Dakota Black, Tim Thomas and Mason House made significant contributions coming off the bench with 9pts., 5 steals and 8 rebounds among them. We look forward to playing G-Aagain.
12-16 - Comstock 48 - Hackett 43
The boy's JV boys basketball team improved to 2-0 with a hard fought game against the Hackett Irish. The final score was 48-43 in favor of the Colts. Eleven players saw action with 8 scoring. Parker Munson led a very balanced attack with 10points. Strong defense in the first half was the key to the game limiting the Irish to just 8points. A strong effort by Tim Thomas, Mason House and Davon Bishop coming off the bench to contribute 14 points was instrumental in the game. Sage Stephenson and Dakota Black took turns guarding Hackett's leading scorer and making him miss late in the game. It was a total team victory.
12-10 - Comstock 41 - Parchment 39
Comstock boys jv basketball team won an exciting 41-39 season opener for both teams. All 11 team members saw action last night with 8 scoring for the colts in a team effort. Dylan Labrie lead the colts with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 7 steals. Tim Thomas played a tremendous defensive game while adding 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Logan Tiller also played a strong game with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.. As a team the highlights were 36 rebounds and 14 steals. Mason House made a free throw with 4 seconds left to seal the win.
