Hello! My name is Ms. Osbeck and I am the teacher in the 5-8 self-contained Emotional Impairment Program at Northeast Middle School! I am a recent graduate of Grand Valley State University (Go Lakers!) where I earned a degree in special education (EI and CI) and elementary education. In my classroom, we will work on developing specific skills that will allow my students to be successful in not only school, but in life.
The program is based on research done regarding impulse control and self-regulation, which is often difficult for students with emotional impairments to master. We do cooking lessons in the room that teach life and social skills and we also do community service projects to give back to the community and teach empathy, communication, and a number of other crucial skills. Our classroom is also based largely on career and transition planning and we do research projects based on these goals and have members of the community come in to speak. My goal is provide an authentic and positive environment for students to grow and learn. I am very excited to work with students from the area and look forward to teaching crucial skills to promote positivity and resiliency in my students!
